OUR STORY
We started raising our five children in busy suburban developments, driving them to rehearsals and games and spending our time at home practicing and getting ready for the next deadline. During Covid we re-evaluated our lifestyle and our relationships and bought two dairy goats in the hopes of making our own cheese. In 2022 we moved to the 40 acres which are today Lonely Goat Hill. We currently own 17 dairy goats, with plans for many more come spring. We spend most of our time at home outside with the children and the animals, though our two oldest are now in college, one at KU and one at Cornell. We hope that they will continue to enjoy trips home to "work" in paradise.

Priorities and Methods
Located just outside Kansas City, Lonely Goat Hill is dedicated to using sustainable farming methods to produce the most wholesome, nutritive product possible. Healthy, well-fed dairy animals produce the most nutritious and best-tasting milk. We believe that the health of our animals begins with the food they eat. We grow our own hay, free of chemicals and pesticides. We use the goat pellets in our garden and soiled bedding in our compost.

We use fungal compost fertilizer to treat our hay fields, instead of nitrogen-based fertilizer, for the health of our soil both locally and our environment remotely. We follow the Johnson-Su method to create the bioreactors that provide our fungal compost. ​Recently we have added biochar to our compost.

ARTISANAL CRAFTSMANSHIP
Our artisanal craftsmanship is reflected in every product we offer. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of quality and taste. Our dairy products are produced in small batches allowing us to keep a close eye on each make. We routinely take measurements of the amount of fat and protein in our milk, which changes with the season and with the stage of lactation. This enables us to make different products depending on the time of year, without adding any extra ingredients or preservatives. We think of cheese-making as an artform, both for the palate and for the eye.
